Our mission

To reach South Dallas with the Gospel, and to build up the people God sends us.

St. John has stood on South Marsalis for generations. What has kept us here is not the building — it is a congregation that shows up for one another, in the hospital room, at the graveside, at the kitchen table, and at eleven o’clock on Sunday morning.

We are a teaching church. Six classes meet through the week, the notes from every one of them are posted here, and the passages they open are indexed so you can find them again. What is preached on Sunday is meant to be carried into Monday.

What we believe

The ground we stand on

Scripture The Bible is the word of God Inspired, trustworthy, and the final authority for what we believe and how we live.
Salvation By grace, through faith Not earned and not inherited. Salvation is the gift of God through faith in Jesus Christ.
Baptism For those who believe Baptism by immersion, following a personal profession of faith in Christ.
The Church The body He works through A local congregation, gathered and sent — not a building, and not a private faith.
Mission Go and make disciples Missionary Baptist means the work does not stop at the door on Marsalis Avenue.
Prayer It moves God We pray together mid-week, and the prayer team stands with anyone who asks.

How we live it

  2. Educating

    Study to show yourself approved.

    2 Timothy 2:15

  3. Accepting

Go and make disciples of all nations.

    Matthew 28:19

  4. Connecting

God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.

    John 4:24

  5. Helping

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
